Citing concerns with health effects of bisphenol A in Nalgene water bottles, Mountain Equipment Co-op had announced on Monday to remove these polycarbonate bottles off the store shelves until a federal review of the chemical is completed. These chemicals were linked to illnesses caused by hormone disruption in several independent research studies.

These bottles also came with our Engineering frosh kits back in the old days. So you can go ahead and throw out those RIM bottles now. If you really need a water bottle, go get yourself a few new ones from the co-op information sessions. :)

Haha, I’ve got my BO and Deloitte ones lying on the floor. :P

    Let’s see… which one to pick…? Amazon, Telus, IBM…

Luckily there are a lot of great alternatives out there:

    1. Guyot Designs Stainless steal bottles. Classy, indestructable, and the only thing better to store liquids in than stainless steel is glass or titanium.
    2. Nalgen HDPE bottles, these are the original bottles that Nalgene made. Different plastic. More translucent than transparent.
    3. Camelback just came out with some new transparent Bisephenol-A free bottles.

Stainless steel bottles are really great, and who knows what other “health risks” that scientists can come up with for these other plastic bottles in the future.
