Its been a while since my last update and because Richard reminded me that I haven’t wrote anything in a while, I’ll write a bit about what I’ve been up to. Besides the endless traditions and non-traditions of my sister’s wedding (and the accompanying festivities), I’ve been trolling the streets/malls of Taoyuan (桃園) and Taipei (台北) doing up some shopping and fattening. I don’t have a pocket-sized “kung fu cam” with me this time, so there aren’t many pictures compared to my last trip to Taiwan. A lot of the pictures are from my phone so the quality is very limited.

Here’s a view from the elevator lobby at the Royal View Hotel that I first stayed at in Hong Kong, which also happened to be the same hotel that Charing was staying at.

The service at this hotel is kind of poor though. The Royal Park Hotel that we stayed at on the second night was much much better with really helpful staff. This hotel is also very close to a subway station and a shopping mall.

I am really amazed by the subway system in Hong Kong. The high speed subway system connects to so many different places. Since I am still able to read the tradition Chinese signs, I can still travel around without having to resort to speaking in Canto-Engrish or Canto-mandarin to find my way around lol. I even met up with Charing in 尖沙嘴 for dinner without getting lost in the subway system. Also, the scooter/bicycle-less streets make the traffic more manageable than Taiwan.

My sister got married and registered in 沙田. It was followed by a very incredible and filling (and probably terribly expensive) 3 hour lunch at a restaurant near by. I have never tasted Chinese food so delicious in my life. They said they were going to book it at the Penisula (which is supposed to be a pretty up-scale hotel), but they said the food there wasn’t as good as the restaurant that we ended up going to.

What is that thing (I’m guessing) your sister is holding in the second page? It’s like some stuffed teddy bear parade float. :P

  4. Scott Kuo says:

It is a tradition for the bride to hold a large plate of candy and hand them to the guests as they leave. =D

    I see… I guess I will never experience a true Chinese wedding… Scott? :P
