Ontario Engineering Competition at UW

The past week has been no less than crazy for me and the entire Project IRIS team. From designing the overall presentation for hitting a moving target down to creating an unbelievable sales pitch, we all did the best we could have possibly done to bring home a deserved 3rd place in the Innovation Design [...]

This just in…

Scott et al,
I am pleased to inform you that your project entry has been selected to represent the University of Waterloo ‘A’ at the 2010 Ontario Engineering Competition, taking place January 29 – 31.
Oh… January is going to be so busy…

Fourth-Year Design Project – Project IRIS

With our FYDP now well into the so called “Elaboration / Elicitation” phase of your typical PLC terminology, we have spent a lot of hours over the reading week into the planning for the “big project”.
In consistency with my habit of posting up super vague information about anything that might be important, all I am [...]

Plan B [Update 2]

Since I didn’t get the job offer that I wanted for the next work term, I’ll be staying in Waterloo doing some extra courses as my “Plan B”. I’ve got the preliminary go ahead by the ECE department, so it is only a matter of paper pushing to make it official. What is “it”? A [...]

Out of my mind?

For reasons beyond any plausible explanation that I can give, I just had the spontaneous urge to extend my academic career by an extra term to do something totally crazy. It might not be a full load term too, since I’ll probably be able to write off a few of my engineering courses as anti-reqs.

Don’t let the picture deceive you

This is a photo taken from the ECE 324 lecture when Dr. Wayne Loucks was trying to explain to the class about load lines. Although his drawings on the tablet pc may need significant improvements, he’s actually really really good at explaining the material well in class (for those that listen to the prof, not [...]

Rawr. Cram. Cram.

I’m taking a quick break from my second all nighter of the term. ECE 241 final exam have proven itself a pain in the butt to study for when you have an ECON 202 final exam directly following it. Especially with being locked out of my apartment last night, I definitely have made less progress [...]

Done the projects, on to the exams!

I finally pulled myself together to finish that ECE 251 projects on the weekend. I managed to put in more semantic checks then what the project appeared to be looking for, based on the error reporting class that the TA provided. The documentation was slightly rushed so there were no pretty UML diagrams and such, [...]

The New Pulley Lab (CPH 2367)

After being damaged from last year’s High Voltage Lab fire, the Pulley lab is now re-open for business! This super air-conditioned (read: not smelly) lab is located on the 2nd floor in CPH next to the door that connects to E2. More pictures after the break!
